Dogs rush over and greet Nilgul Sayar when she arrives by car to feed them in the countryside near Istanbul, one of many Turks with affection for Turkey's estimated four million stray dogs, whose fate now lies in the government's hands.

Dog owners in Sofia are being reminded of the strict regulations governing pet ownership in the city, with fines of BGN 100 (EUR 50) for walking dogs without a leash or failing to carry the animal's passport. The Sofia Inspectorate emphasizes that repeat violations will incur increased penalties.

Ljubljana – The National Assembly have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a bill that seeks to better protect pet, increase their well-being and enhance the responsibility of their owners. The amendments to the animal protection act were backed on Wednesday in a 87:1 vote.

Bulgarian MPs will again ask for amendments to the Veterinary Medicine Act in connection with the increased incidents of aggressive dogs.

From 100 to 1000 levs to increase the penalty for walking an aggressive dog without a muzzle, MPs voted unanimously at first reading the deputies from the agricultural commission in the Parliament. The changes are proposed by GERB and are laid down in the Veterinary Act.

They also provide a fine of BGN 300 for a dog without leash, which is over 5 kilograms.

A single mother was attacked by Dogo argentino and barely survived.

The two huge dogs attacked the woman on the street in the Montana village of Sumer, NOVA reported.

The intervention of neighbors saved the woman's life, she has a three-year-old child. She is in a hospital with multiple wounds and tears.
