Sailing boats collide near Paxi, injuring 18-year-old
Two sailboats collided near the Paxi archipelago in the Ionian Sea on Wednesday, injuring an 18-year-old.
The boats were sailing from Paxi to Lefkada when the collision occurred 3.4 nautical miles south of Antipaxi.

A new book featuring 68 collectible photographs and paintings of Lefkada, along with prose and poems by journalist Elias P. Georgakis, has been released by Kampyli Publications. The book will be presented for the first time on Sunday, August 11th, at 8 p.m., at the Angelos Sikelianos Garden Theater in Lefkada.
Chinese woman dies in Lefkada paragliding accident
A 43-year-old Chinese woman drowned in a paragliding accident in Lefkada on Monday.
The woman drowned after she fell into the sea with her wing.
She had arrived in Lefkada with a group of tourists and decided to take a paraglider to fly above the west coast of the island.

Construction spikes on islands in 2023
Island municipalities issued the largest number of new building permits in 2023, with the top five comprising Lefkada and Zakynthos in the Ionian, Paros and Naxos in the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese island of Rhodes, according to the National Statistical Service of Greece (ELSTAT).

Greece leads in recreational boats for hire
Greece has the largest fleet of recreational boats available for hire in the region, according to a survey by Riginos, one of the country's leading yachting companies.
The number of vessels available for leasing in this country reached 2,580 in 2023, of which 740 are catamaran-type boats, whose popularity is showing significant growth.

Twenty-nine stone lighthouses around the country will open to the public for a few hours on Saturday as part of World Lighthouse Day, celebrated every year since 2003 on the third Sunday in August.

Boars devour man
A 55-year-old fireman who went missing on July 22 in Evia was found dead on Saturday.
According to local reports the body of Apostolos Kastanas was found "devoured" by what appeared to be a pack of wild boars in the forested area of Lefkada Amfithea in Evia.
