Legal recognition of intersex people

Germany’s top court on Nov. 7 required parliament to recognize a “third gender” from birth, potentially making it the first European country to offer intersex people the option of identifying as neither male nor female.

A Navy veteran from Colorado who identifies as neither male nor female has sued the U.S. Department of State after being denied a passport for refusing to select a gender on the application, court documents showed on Oct. 26.
