Legal status of same-sex marriage

Twenty-eight foreign embassies accredited to Greece have jointly issued a statement applauding the enactment of legislation granting equal marriage rights to same-sex couples.

The Greek Parliament has voted a bill legalizing same-sex marriage by a wide margin.

The bill in its entirety was approved 176-76 in the 300-member assembly late Thursday, with 2 MPs voting "present." A total of 46 abstained.

There were also separate votes for each article, with many getting as many as 199 positive votes.

Lawmakers begin a debate Wednesday on a landmark bill to legalize same-sex marriage that would make Greece the first Orthodox Christian country to do so.

The Valentine's Day session in parliament follows vocal opposition and protests from the church but also a shift in public opinion which - while still divided - is narrowly supportive of the reform.

The proposed bill on same-sex marriage and adoption was posted for public consultation on Wednesday by the State Ministry.

The ministry's website (opengov.gr) uploaded the bill under the title "Equality of civil marriage, amendment of the Civil Code and other provisions," which will remain for public consultaton until January 31.

It appears that the center-right government of Greece is about to propose legislation in favor of same-sex marriage and parenthood. Kudos to the government; it did not have to make this proposal but by doing so demonstrates that Greece is part of the modern family of states where human rights are important.

Ljubljana – The government adopted on Friday legislative changes to remedy the regulation prohibiting homosexual couples from getting married or adopting children. The changes to the family code will be fast tracked through parliament, the Government Communication Office said.

They apparently had sex up to 12 times a day!

This is the initial step towards legalizing the marriages of members of the LGBT community.
The public debate will last until February 20, and it is expected that the law should be adopted in the Assembly by the summer, reports Blic.
Minister of Human Rights and Social Dialogue Gordana Comic says that the bill should be in the Assembly by the end of the spring session.

The Taiwan Parliament has legalized same-sex marriages today, the French press reported, quoted by NOVA TV. 

This is the first such case in Asia. Parliament legalized same-sex marriages for two years after the Taiwan Constitutional Court ruled in May 2017 that they did not contradict the Taiwanese constitution.
