Local candidate draws wrath for kicking stray dog in Lesvos
A candidate in this month's local elections on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos faces possible criminal charges after an animal protection society published a video furnished by the management of a cafe in the main town of Mytilini showing him kicking a dog.
Two bodies recovered on the shores of Lesvos
Greece's coast guard says the bodies of a woman and a girl have been separately recovered on the shores of the island of Lesvos.
The first body, belonging to a 4- to 6-year-old girl, was found on a beach Sunday morning. The woman's body was recovered a few hours later, found on a rocky shore.

Condolences pour in after death of 'Lesvos granny'
Greek political leaders Thursday paid homage to Maritsa Mavrapidi, one of the three "Lesvos grannies" who became a symbol of the Aegean islanders' solidarity with refugees after their image sitting side by side bottle-feeding a refugee baby went viral at the peak of the migration crisis in 2015.

Lesvos suffers storm damage
Heavy rainfall damaged homes and parts of the road network on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos Thursday, as a storm dubbed Penelope swept across the country, bringing downpours and gale-force winds.
Most of the problems on Lesvos were concentrated around the area of Gera on the southeastern coast and in the village of Plagia in the Plomari region.

Syrian teen shot by farmer in Lesvos
A Syrian asylum seeker was hospitalized on Tuesday after being shot in the head and legs by a farmer on the island of Lesvos.
Police said the perpetrator, a resident of the village of Moria, shot the 16-year-old in the presence of his brother and parents for unknown reasons at a farm north of the reception and identification center named after the village.

Moria leader rejects gov't pledges, continues hunger strike
The leader of the Moria community on the Aegean island of Lesvos on Tuesday entered the third day of a hunger strike launched on Sunday to demand a solution for chronic overcrowding at the local reception center for migrants, rejecting the proposals of a visiting government official.
