Historic lighthouse guides sailors for five generations
For more than 160 years, İnceburun Lighthouse has guided mariners through the challenging waters of the Black Sea, thanks to a dedicated family that has maintained it for five generations.
Located at the northernmost tip of Türkiye in Sinop and standing 9 meters above the ground and 26 meters above sea level, the historical landmark continues to serve as a crucial navigation point.
Thousands visit Greek lighthouses open on World Lighthouse Day
Nearly 18,000 people visited the 18 Greek lighthouses that were opened to the public on August 18, World Lighthouse Day.
Visitors were given tours by lighthouse keepers, officers of the Hellenic Navy who are responsible for their uninterrupted operation and upkeep.
The magic of lighthouses
The great illustrator and cartoonist Gisis Papageorgiou discovered the magical allure of lighthouses in 1980 thanks to Vice Admiral Stylianos Lykoudis, who is considered the father of Greece's lighthouse network.
