Athens city centre closed due to rallies – How buses, trolleybuses, metro and trams are running

The centre of Athens is under siege due to the parallel protest rallies being held by federations, trade unions and unions as part of the 24-hour general strike.

Pireos street is closed from the height of Iera Odos, Panepistimiou street, Stadiou street from the height of Americas street, while all the streets around Syntagma are closed.

Athens Metro extends service hours to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays

Starting this Friday, Athens Metro Lines 2 and 3 will operate until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

According to an announcement from STASY, the organization that manages the capital's metro system, the last trains will depart from the central Syntagma station at 2 a.m., providing service in all directions.

ISAP trains evacuated after fire

Two Athens metro trains were evacuated after a fire broke out near Neratziotissa station in northern Attica on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire brigade was alerted at around 5 p.m. due to heavy smoke from the fire. The two trains on Line 1 (ISAP), heading toward the northern suburb of Kifissia, were stopped and evacuated, with passengers walking along the tracks to Irini station.

Criminal investigation launched after near-collision between Greek trains

A criminal investigation has been ordered following a near collision between two commuter trains between Athens and Agioi Anargyroi stations on Friday morning. 

The Acharnes station manager mistakenly ordered train 1307 to take a single track already occupied by train 1210, risking a head-on collision.
