Paris bids 'au revoir' to Olympics with star-studded show

Hollywood star Tom Cruise abseiled from the roof of the Stade de France as Paris said farewell on Sunday to an Olympics hailed as one of the most successful in history.

Cruise descended on a wire in front of 71,500 spectators, grabbed the Olympic flag and jumped on a motorbike, to the delight of athletes and fans.

The Hollywood star symbolically “passed the baton” for the 2028 Olympic Games to the next host city, Los Angeles, offering the audience a one-of-a-kind show.

A bus carrying migrants from a Texas border city arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday for the second time in less than three weeks.

The office of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was not formally notified but became aware on Friday of the bus dispatched from Brownsville, Texas, to L.A. Union Station, Bass spokesperson Zach Seidl said in a statement.

Anne Heche in hospital, ’stable’ after fiery car crash

Actor Anne Heche was in the hospital on Aug. 6 following an accident in which her car smashed into a house and flames erupted, a spokeswoman said.

"Anne is currently in stable condition. Her family and friends ask for your thoughts and prayers and to respect her privacy during this difficult time," Heather Duffy Boylston, Heche's friend and podcast partner, said in a statement.
