Loutraki Casino, in the seaside resort west of Athens, is under threat of closure, as the company's failure to pay its employees their salaries has put its continued operation in doubt.

Fifteen new investment initiatives by business groups in the tourism sector for the creation, expansion and modernization of hotel units at popular Greek destinations are currently unfolding. Kathimerini understands that local authorities have already issued a series of permits for the implementation of the investment programs, while other projects are well under way.

In early May, the town of Loutraki, hosts another special event in motorsport. It is the International Hellenic Regularity Rally, which is the 3rd round of the FIA’s Trophy for Historic Regularity Rallies and in the 3rd round of the corresponding Greek Championship of OMAE.

Cypriot company Hellenic Water is in advanced talks with Pepsico-Ivi for the acquisition of the latter's water bottling plant at Loutraki, near Corinth.

The local subsidiary of Pepsico is also in talks with a company outside the food and drink sector for the sale of its installations - offices and warehouses - at Koropi, east of Athens.

"Imagine your backyard covered in trash. Wouldn't you feel the need to clean it up?" asks Chrysanthos Chorbas, explaining how the Loutraki Divers group, headquartered at the seaside resort on the Gulf of Corinth, came to volunteer to clean the seabed of debris and trash that has built up over the years.

Renowned Greek actress Anna Synodinou died at the age of 89 at a private hospital facing health problems over the last years.

The great actress and politician was born in 1927 in Loutraki.

She is known for The 300 Spartans (1962), Ilektra (1962) and Matomena homata (2008), while she had participated in many drama performances.

The Greek Finance Ministry suspended operations of the Loutraki Casino at 8 a.m. on Thursday due for tax reasons. Sources point to the casino’s debt worth 2 million euros in taxes. The casino’s management said that it could not bear the high taxation imposed and was struggling to collect the money so as to open by the evening.
