Ryanair Plane Damaged by 'Big Bird' in Bulgaria's Plovdiv

A Ryanair plane was struck by a bird while landing at Plovdiv Airport at about 21:00 on Wednesday evening, local news sources say.

The bird seems to have caused engine trouble to the Boeing aircraft, and it took repair workers a few hours to fix it, daily Trud reports.

The aircraft managed to take off at 01.35 EEST on Thursday morning.

Qatar Airlines increase destinations to Greece

Qatar Airways is increasing flights to Athens from Doha with the addition of a third flight to operate daily from June 1. This will raise the number of weekly flights to the Greek capital from 14 to 21 flights per week.

The Athens-Doha route, carried out by Airbus 320, 321 and 330, will be one of 146 destinations around the globe carried out by the airline.

Turkish Airlines carries 12.8 million in first quarter

Turkish Airlines, the country's national flag-carrier, has announced it increased its total number of passengers by 6.5 percent in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same period of the previous year.

The total number of passengers in the first quarter of 2015 was 12.8 million compared to 12 million in January-March 2014, according to a statement from the company on April 14.

Hundreds of flights scrapped as French air traffic controllers strike

Hundreds of flights to and from France were expected to be canceled April 8 as air traffic controllers launched a two-day strike over working conditions.

The civil aviation authority has asked airlines to scrap around 40 percent of flights, warning of "disruption across the whole country."
