De facto system change in Turkey as PM leaves post

Following a meeting with President Tayyip Erdo?an on May 5 that lasted 1 hour 40 minutes, Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu is taking the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) to an emergency congress on May 22, saying he will not put his name forward as a leadership candidate. 

In other words, Davuto?lu has not resigned but he is stepping down.

CHP highlights liberal democracy

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) head Kemal K?l?çdaro?lu stressed the need for liberal democracy in Turkey, at the first meeting of the CHP's new party assembly.

Speaking at the opening of the first meeting after a new assembly was elected at the party's convention on Jan. 17, K?l?çdaro?lu said Turkey needed a liberal democracy and vowed to bring it to the country.
