Dubai Air Show opens as aviation soars following pandemic lockdowns

The biennial Dubai Air Show opened yesterday as airlines are poised to make major aircraft purchases after rebounding from the groundings of the coronavirus pandemic.

Boeing announced an order of 45 737 MAX aircraft from budget carrier SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa on the first day of the event.

Lufthansa cancels another 2,000 summer flights

German national carrier Lufthansa said Wednesday it was scrapping another 2,000 flights this summer because of staff shortages, adding to a chaotic travel season as the industry attempts to bounce back from the pandemic.

The cancellations between now and the end of August will affect Lufthansa's hubs in Munich and Frankfurt, a company spokesman told AFP.

Direct flights between Belgrade and Pristina, announced in January 2020, have not been restored yet due to the Corona crisis, BIRN has been told.

The Lufthansa group subsidiary that was supposed to realize the project, Eurowings, told BIRN that on this route "unfortunately there is still no further movement as a result of the Corona pandemic".

Lufthansa stops Flights to Kyiv and Odessa

German airline Lufthansa has announced that it will suspend flights to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv from tomorrow due to growing fears of a Russian invasion.

The airline said it would also suspend flights to Odessa, a key Black Sea port.

"The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority at all times," Lufthansa said.
