Wimbledon on alert due to possible match-fixing scandal

 

News has emerged that three matches at the recently concluded Wimbledon tournament have aroused suspicions of match-fixing.

Roger Federer emerged victorious at this year’s men’s singles event with his dominant win over Marin Cilic while Garbine Muguruza won her first ever title at SW19 with her win over Venus Williams in what was regarded as a successful event overall.

Record 8th Title For Federer

Roger Federer became the first man to win Wimbledon eight times and extended his record to 19 Grand Slam titles with victory over Croatia's Marin Cilic, according to BBC Sports. 

The Swiss third seed won 6-3 6-1 6-4 as seventh seed Cilic struggled with a blister on his left foot and broke down in tears during the second set.

Novak Djokovic beat Swiss Roger Federer 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 early on Monday Central European Time to win his second U.S. Open and 10th Gram Slam title.

By triumphing in New York, the world number one tennis player became only the eighth man in the history of the sport to have double-digit Grand Slam titles.

Federer ends three-year claycourt drought with Istanbul title

Roger Federer won the inaugural Istanbul Open on May 3, beating third seed Pablo Cuevas 6-3 7-6 (11) for his first clay title in three years.

The world number two took his 85th ATP World Tour title to end a long drought on clay dating back to the 2012 Madrid Masters, which was played on a slick blue surface. 

Djokovic ups score difference, Troicki ranks 36th

LONDON - World's best tennis player Novak Djokovic defended the Miami Open title and increased the score difference against second-ranked Swiss player Roger Federer on the latest ATP list.

Djokovic currently has 13,205 points, 4,310 more than Federer who skipped the Florida tournament where he reached the quarterfinal last year.

Djokovic defends Indian Wells title, earns 50th win

Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 6-2 to successfully defend his Indian Wells crown and claim his 50th career ATP title on March 23.
      
The 27-year-old world number one from Serbia also captured his fourth Indian Wells crown and is now tied with world number two Federer for the most men's titles in the California desert.
