German prosecutors on Thursday searched the Munich offices of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) in connection to the alleged payment of bribes to Greek officials over the sale of 170 Leopard 2 tanks and 24 self-propelled howitzers at least a decade ago, Kathimerini understands.

Swiss authorities are investigating a Geneva-based gold trading firm that appears to have played a central role in Greece’s arms procurements scandals.

Sources told Kathimerini prosecutors have been going through the records of Decafin for the past few weeks in a bid to gather more information about its possible entanglement in corrupt deals in Greece.

European arrest warrants are to be issued for banker Fanis Lyginos and Olaf Eschler, a vice president at German arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, after the pair failed to appear before magistrates investigating bribery allegations.
