Excavations continue in ancient Magnesia

Excavations in the ancient city of Magnesia in Aydın province's Ortaklar neighborhood are ongoing. Magnesia, known as the "city of incidents" since it has witnessed many important events throughout history, is best known for its temple dedicated to Artemis, the fourth biggest temple in Anatolia, and Zeus temples from the 3rd century B.C. Two swimmers dead in Volos and Nafplio

Two swimmers died on Thursday and Friday in separate incidents in beaches near the towns of Nafplio in the Peloponnese and Volos in Magnesia.

The first victim was an 89-year-old woman who was pulled out of the sea unconscious in Anavros beach near Volos on Friday morning.

Her body was transferred to the town's hospital for an autopsy.

Hail, snow fall over mainland

A wet front swept across much of the country on Wednesday, bringing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to many parts including Volos and much of Magnesia.
Volos was particularly hard hit with three hours of torrential rain in the morning that flooded streets and squares.
