Bulgarian Interior Minister Calls for Stricter Punishment of Human Traffickers

Bulgarian Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova will insist for urgent review of the legislative amendments aimed at imposing stricter sanctions against human traffickers.

Bachvarova stated this during a working visit to the border check point near the town of Malko Tarnovo on Saturday, private bTV station informs.

Bulgarian Customs Seize 9.5 Kg Heroin at Border with Turkey

Bulgarian customs said on Monday they have seized 9.5 kilogrammes of heroin stashed in the LPG reservoir of a Bulgarian-registered passenger car.

The car was entering Bulgaria from Turkey at Malko Tarnovo border crossing.

The car driver, a Bulgarian national, has been detained, the Customs Agency said in a statement.

 

Forest Guard Discover Dead Immigrant Near Bulgarian-Turkish Border

Forest guards discovered the dead body of an immigrant near the Bulgarian-Turkish border in the Malko Tarnovo region, reports the Burgas police.

The body of the unidentified man was found near the river Mladezhka in the Strandzha mountain, not far away from the village of Zvezdets.

Turkey to Introduce Paid Disinfection System at Bulgaria’s Checkpoints

Turkish border authorities will introduce a disinfection system for vehicles at the border crossings with Bulgaria - Kapitan Andreevo, Kapikule, Hamzabeyli / Lesovo and Derekoy / Malko Tarnovo.

Vehicles entering Turkey from Bulgaria will pass through a special system for disinfecting, the governor of the border town of Edirne, Dursun Ali Sahin, announced at a press conference.

Bulgaria Seizes 16kg Heroin at Border with Turkey

Bulgaria’s Customs Agency said on Friday it has seized nearly 16 kg of heroin at Malko Tarnovo checkpoint, at the border with Turkey.

The drug haul was hidden in a Bulgarian-registered car that travelled to Bulgaria from Turkey on August 13, the agency said in a statement. The car driver was a Bulgarian citizen.

Voting in Turkey’s Presidential Election Starts at Bulgarian Border

Border crossing points on the Bulgarian-Turkish border have opened polling stations for Turkey’s presidential elections on August 10.

A total of10 polling stations have been opened, including 8 at Kapikule – Kapitan Andreevo, one at Hamzabeyli – Lesovo and one at Derekyoy – Malko Tarnovo, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Bulgaria-Turkey Border Checkpoint Temporarily Closed for Trucks

Bulgaria's Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint with Turkey will be closed for incoming trucks from 10 am to 4 pm on Wednesday.

Due to road maintenance, freight trucks will not be allowed to pass into Bulgaria during these hours, the border authorities informed.

The other two checkpoints, at Malko Tarnovo and Lesovo will be opened for traffic.
