Fining public administration employees who don't do their jobs on time may seem completely bizarre by Greek standards. It is, however, the reasonable thing to do if we want to have a civil service where each official feels personally responsible for the task he or she has been assigned.

Ministry proposes overhaul of police disciplinary rules

Citizen Protection Ministry is spearheading a comprehensive reform of disciplinary law for Greece's police force.

In an official announcement, the ministry underscored that "almost sixteen years after the initial implementation of the discipline rules," efforts are underway "to usher the police into a new modern era of restructuring and reorganization."

Recruiting the best

Whatever the final tally of managing the climate threat, what is certain is that the people on the front lines - pilots, firefighters, security forces, volunteers - are fighting with self-sacrifice.

The state must ensure that they are not only compensated according to their contribution, but also that they are supported by the best experts in the country.
