Firefighter suspended over suspected involvement in fan riot
A 30-year-old firefighter has been suspended from duty on suspicion of being involved in a fan riot outside a volleyball stadium near Piraeus last December in which a police officer suffered fatal injuries.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the fire service has also launched a sworn administrative examination into the case, which could lead to the firefighter being fired.
New suspect arrested in officer’s death probe
One more person was arrested on Thursday in connection with the criminal organization believed by Greek authorities to be behind the fatal wounding of 31-year-old policeman Giorgos Lyngeridis outside a volleyball stadium in Piraeus last December.
The 41-year-old suspect holds a senior position among the organized fans of Olympiakos club, according to sources.

Two men arrested during burglary attempt
Two men, aged 37 and 27, were apprehended on Friday in Peristeri, western Athens, after being caught in the act of attempting to break into a vehicle.
The suspects attempted to flee upon police arrival at the scene. After a chase, the police arrested the two men and confiscated two hoods, gloves, eight rings, 200 euros and a watch stolen from a nearby residence.
