Athens-based artistic collective The Callas will debut their new album, "Anatoli," at Under Athens (1 Ippokratous & Panepistimiou). For more than 20 years, brothers Aris and Lakis Ionas have been electrifying Greece's creative scene, and now they're back with their second Greek-language album. Packed with dreamy, post-punk bangers, "Anatoli" promises to get you thinking and rocking.

Having completed its first year of operation, the Maria Callas Museum in Athens has been shortlisted for the prestigious European Museum of the Year Awards (EMYA) 2025, marking its emergence as a contemporary cultural institution with a global perspective.

The Cultural Center of Kalamata in the northwestern Peloponnese unveiled a permanent exhibition on Maria Callas on December 2, the day that, had the great Greek opera diva been alive, she would have turned 101 years old. It was a good day for the capital of Messinia and for the region, a homecoming of sorts, of a world-celebrated artist whose humble roots lay in the village of Neochori.

Pablo Larrain's much-anticipated biopic on Maria Callas, which opened at Greek theaters earlier this month, acquaints the public with lesser-known aspects of the great opera diva's life.

The Maria Callas Museum (44 Mitropoleos, mariacallasmuseum.gr) in Athens will host its second annual street party on December 7, celebrating the iconic opera singer's legacy. Petrachi Street, behind the museum, will transform into a vibrant dance  floor with a DJ set by local artists Demetra Kakounaki and Giota Kotseta. The night will mix opera classics with jazz, funk and nu-disco.

The 65th Thessaloniki Film Festival promises to shine with the presence of international stars Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes, who will be honored with the Golden Alexander award. Both actors will present their latest film, "The Return," inspired by Homer's "Odyssey," shot in Greece.

The Velvet Bus 2024 festival is on a 10-day journey through Greece, showcasing diverse artistic expressions at as many venues. Featuring musicians, visual artists and filmmakers, the festival aims to foster dialogue among various art forms. The event culminates in a party, concert and exhibition in Athens at the historic Bageion Hotel (18 Omonia Square) on October 30.

In Maria, Oscar-winning Angelina Jolie portrays Maria Callas, the most iconic performer of the 20th century. The film focuses on the legendary Greek diva during her final days in Paris after a dazzling yet tumultuous life. Maria revisits Callas’ life, offering a glimpse into her identity and revealing unknown aspects of her personality.

A special opera gala aimed at supporting the educational goals of the “Maria Callas Scholarships” Association, founded by the opera legend herself, will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024, in the Christos Lambrakis Hall of the Athens Concert Hall.

The event will feature two distinguished soloists, soprano Alexia Voulgaridou and baritone Aris Argiris.
