Rybakina sets sights on Roland Garros

Elena Rybakina won the Italian Open on May 20 and promptly turned her attention to Roland Garros and the pursuit of a second career Grand Slam title.

Kazakhstan's Rybakina captured her second WTA 1000 title of the season at Foro Italico when Ukrainian opponent Anhelina Kalinina retired with a thigh injury which she had been carrying all week.

Maria Sharapova is getting hitched.

 The former tennis star has become engaged to British art dealer Alexander Gilkes — the ex-husband of Meghan Markle's best friend Misha Nonoo.

Gilkes, who has a reported net worth upwards of $20 million, and Sharapova both took to social media to share the news of their engagement.

Romania's Halep progresses to Australian Open second round

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, world number three, on Tuesday advanced to the second round of the women's singles event at the Australian Open tournament, the first Grand Slam of the year, after defeating American Jennifer Brady 7-5 (5) 6-1. Seed number 4 Halep, 28, prevailed in an hour and 36 minutes, dominating the second set after a very balanced first one.

Romania's Halep qualifies for Roland Garros semis

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, world number one, qualified on Wednesday for the semis of the Roland Garros tournament, the second Grand Slam of the year, after defeating German Angelique Kerber, 12th seed, with a score of 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-2.

Halep (aged 26), last year's finalist and in 2014, managed to defeat her opponent after two hours and 14 minutes.
