Cancer patients say Covid infections influx causing delays in treatment
Ljubljana – The umbrella organisation representing cancer patients in Slovenia, Onko Net, expressed grave concern in the face of fast growing coronavirus infections in the country, which has already started causing delays in cancer treatments at some hospitals. They urge those in charge to take action.
Institute of Public Health now in charge of pandemic management
Ljubljana – A new advisory group for Covid-19 at the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) has been formed, a move that Health Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan said meant the management of the pandemic has now been taken over by experts. The government will nevertheless be fully responsible for any measures taken.
NIJZ head’s powers curtailed under government decision
Ljubljana – Against the backdrop of speculations that the head of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), Milan Krek, will soon be dismissed or will step down, the government changed the rules governing the institution so that Krek will no longer perform the duties of NIJZ medical director.
Slovenia confirms second case of monkeypox
Ljubljana – Only a day after confirming its first case of monkeypox, Slovenia reported a second case of infection with the virus on Wednesday. Like the first case, the infected person had travelled to Spain, the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) has announced on its website.

Chief epidemiologist quits Covid-19 advisory team again
Ljubljana – Mario Fafangel, the head of the centre for communicable diseases at the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), has resigned from the team advising the government on measures to contain coronavirus, saying decisions taken are often in disagreement with the epidemiologists’ opinion and protocols.
