Greece's electrical goods retailers have suffered in the last decade

German electrical goods chain Media Markt is reconsidering its position in the Greek market after 13 years in the country, as - despite signs of recovery in the local economy - parent company Ceconomy appears to have lost its patience with repeated annual losses by the chain and the failure to expand its market share.

The world-renowned Prague Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates Valentine's Day with two concerts titled "Love Goes to the Movies" at the Pallas Theater in Athens on Monday, February 13, and Tuesday, February 14. The ensemble is conducted by Friedemann Riehle and presents soloists Sabina Olijve on vocals, Natalia Lisniak on the violin and Marcel Javorcek on piano.

Papaioannou Tribute | Athens | January 18

The Mikro Mousiko Theatro pays tribute to the late rebetiko legend and pioneer of the genre's balladeer style Yiannis Papaioannou (1913-72), on Wednesday, January 18. The concert, organized with his family's support on the 104th anniversary of his birth, will include performances by dozens of popular Greek folk singers and musicians.

Roy Ayers | Athens | December 10

Legendary jazz and R&B artist, composer and vibraphone soloist Roy Ayers will be performing at the Gazarte venue in Athens on Saturday, December 10. The lineup also includes Mark Adams (keyboards), Trevor Allen (bass) and Christopher De Carmine (drums). The gig is set to start at 9.30 p.m. and admission ranges from 26 to 48 euros (23 to 45 euros for tickets purchased in advance).
