A poll released on Friday revealed that the ruling New Democracy (ND)'s lead over PASOK has narrowed to 7.6 points.

The MRB survey for OPEN TV shows New Democracy leading with 21.7%, followed by PASOK at 14.1%. The nationalist Greek Solution party holds third place with 8.5%, while the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) follows closely with 7.5%. SYRIZA ranks fifth with 6.4%.

Socialist PASOK has leapfrogged over leftist SYRIZA to second place, while ruling New Democracy leads the pack by 18 points, according to a new opinion poll of voter intentions based on expected valid votes conducted by Prorata. 

With just 12 days remaining before the European elections on June 9, political leaders are employing various strategies to engage the so-called "gray zone" of voters.

The race for the European elections dominates the political scene after parties unveiled their roster of candidates last week. Political leaders are crisscrossing the country, aiming to mobilize voters seven weeks before the ballot.

Accusing the government of a cover-up in the 2023 Tempe railway disaster, the leader of Greece's main opposition party is calling on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to resign from his post and put an end to the "political impasse."

The members of Greece's new government take the oath during a swearing-in ceremony attended by President Katerina Sakellaropoulou at the Presidential Palace in Athens on Tuesday. Center-right Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' cabinet was sworn in as his New Democracy party had 40.55%, more than twice the opposition SYRIZA party's 17.84% after Sunday's election.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis proved to be the right man at the right time when he was elected to lead New Democracy in 2016. The party needed someone who knew the mechanisms of politics from an early age and, at the same time, was seen as an outsider, a technocrat who could deal with the populism of the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks government.

"We have a strong mandate and a parliamentary majority and our government will be a government of hard work and practical results," Mitsotakis said.

Greece's conservative New Democracy party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis vowed to speed up reforms following his landslide victory Sunday in the country's second election in five weeks that granted him a comfortable parliamentary majority to form a government for a second four-year term.
