‘Six women in Greek Tragedy’ this summer beneath the heights of the Acropolis.
The premiere of "Six Women in Greek Tragedy," an arrangement of plays written by Greece's major tragedians, Euripides, Sophocles and Aeschylus, is set for June 22, 2024.
This open-air Ancient Greek theatre performance, directed by Panos Angelopoulos, will be hosted at the Athens University History Museum, in the hub of Plaka, beneath the heights of the Acropolis.

Ancient Greek theater to flood the streets of Ghent
The Belgian city of Ghent is hosting a festival dedicated to ancient Greek drama, presenting the entire canon of 32 surviving plays in the streets of the city, free of charge, from May 1 to June 23.

Medea | Epidaurus | July 7 – August 26
Commemorating the centenary of Maria Callas' birth, in conjunction with Frank Castorf's production, the Epidaurus (aefestival.gr) exhibition hall is set to reopen after a 22-year hiatus, thanks to the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Is a logo a threat to an ancient theater?
A cynic would say that it's just another of the many online arguments that kick off every so often: The logos of Levi's, McDonalds, Apple, Marlboro and other American corporate giants that make up part of the set in the Greek National Opera's production of "Madama Butterfly" which is currently on at the Herod Atticus Theater have sparked outrage on social media.

‘Medea’ through Castorf’s perspective
The five lead actresses in this year's "Medea" performance directed by Frank Castorf at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus as part of the Athens Festival: (l-r) Evdokia Roumelioti, Maria Nafpliotou, Sofia Kokkali, Angeliki Papoulia and Stefania Goulioti. Homage to Maria Callas with a grand ‘Medea’
In a tribute marking the centennial of Maria Callas' birth, the Greek National Opera is premiering Luigi Cherubini's "Medea" on Tuesday. This major international co-production involves three leading North American opera houses: the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the Canadian Opera Company and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
