Istanbul to host new int’l art fair ‘Artcontact’
Istanbul will host a new international contemporary art fair called '"Artcontact" between May 31 and June 6 at the Avrasya Arts Center.
Atis, the company that has been organizing the ArtAnkara Contemporary Art Fair in the capital for seven years, will organize the Artcontact Contemporary Art Fair this year.

Mehmet Aksoy returns with new Istanbul show
An exhibition presenting recent works by the acclaimed sculptor Mehmet Aksoy will be shown at Istanbul's Anna Laudel Contemporary through April 20.
The exhibition, "Esoteric Illusions in the Wind of the Hammer," marks the return of Aksoy's unique aesthetic after five years of seclusion.

Aksoy's sculpture moved to Avc?lar
Turkish artist Mehmet Aksoy's sculpture, which was removed on Jan. 7 from its spot for 12 years in Istanbul's Ümraniye neighborhood after a court decision that the location belonged to the General Directorate of National Property, will be placed in the Avc?lar neighborhood.

Artist faces four years in jail for 'insulting' President Erdo?an
An artist who President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an was ordered to be pay 10,000 Turkish Liras in compensation now faces four years in prison for describing the money as ?haram,? or forbidden in Islam.
Artist 'to party with' Erdo?an's money
The artist who will be paid 10,000 Turkish Liras in compensation from President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, after the latter called his sculpture to promote reconciliation between Turkey and Armenia a ?freak? is planning to spend the money on a March 21, Nevruz holiday celebration with his friends.

President Erdo?an to pay sculptor compensation over 'freak' comment
A court has ordered President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an to pay 10,000 Turkish Liras to the artist responsible for a sculpture in the northeastern province of Kars, which he had demanded the removal of and described as a ?freak.?
During a Jan. 8, 2011 visit to Kars, then Prime Minister Erdo?an slammed the city?s new 35-meter-tall ?Monument to Humanity,? created by sculptor Mehmet Aksoy.
