Greece is rekindling discussions with the US regarding the potential acquisition of four littoral combat ships (LCS) to strengthen its navy.

Following previous negotiations that faltered due to the aging and defective nature of the offered ships, Athens is seeking alternatives that better meet its needs.

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias on Thursday announced Greece's intention to start negotiations for the acquisition of a fourth Belharra-type frigate to forge ahead with a wide-reaching modernization program for a series of ships of the Hellenic Navy.

When, a few days ago, Turkey took delivery of its first German-built T-214 submarine with air-independent propulsion system, there was much anxious talk about how Greece is further falling behind in capability compared to its neighbor and nominal ally.

Greece has four T-214 submarines, which gave it a distinct advantage over Turkey for a decade.

Greece's frigate Hydra opened fire on two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Gulf of Aden during the early hours of Wednesday, utilizing its 127mm main gun. Both UAVs promptly altered their course.
