Turkey's first double-arm transplant recipient has made a call to all the citizens of the country to support organ transplantation, implying the surgery he had in 2010 as a "rebirth."

"I am 39, but my arms are 12-years old," Cihan Topal, the former patient who had his name written in the history of medicine, told the Demirören News Agency on Jan. 17.

A Turkish doctor successfully conducted the country's second uterus transplant in the southern province of Antalya on July 27.

Doctor Ömer Özkan transplanted a uterus from a cadaveric donor into 32-year-old Havva Erdem in an eight-hour operation in the University Hospital of Antalya with the help of a 40-member medical team, including his wife, Özlenen Özkan.

A three-year-old girl with disabilities, who made it to the headlines on May 4 for being taught how to walk with a home-made mechanism by her father, has been promised to be treated by the Akdeniz University Hospital in the southern province of Antalya.

Turkish doctors at Antalya's Akdeniz University performed the country's third double arm transplant in an 11-hour operation on Feb. 2, with initial reports indicating the recipient is in good medical condition.
