Meteorite fireball lights up Turkey’s sky as it crashes towards Earth

A flash of light that shot across the sky over northeastern Turkey and sparked alerts on social media was caused by a "burning meteor" crashing to Earth, according to experts.
The footage of the fireball landing was recorded on security cameras in many provinces, including Sivas, Bingöl, Trabzon and Artvin.

Antarctica: Turkish scholar collects 10,000 meteoroids

A Turkish scientist has collected over 10,000 micrometeoroids in Antarctica for astronomical research.

Working from the Belgian Antarctica base, Mehmet Yeşiltaş said that he focused on micrometeoroids with his Belgian and Japanese counterparts.

Yeşiltaş said researchers first began to collect micrometeoroids this year, with samples from mountains in the continent's east.

Giant Meteorite Crater Bigger Than Paris Found Beneath Greenland's Ice Sheet

A giant crater that was formed when a meteorite smashed into Earth, has been uncovered deep below Greenland's ice sheets, according to the Independent.co.uk

The 31-kilometre-wide cavity was discovered by an international team of scientists who believe it was caused by a "rare" meteorite that struck Earth as recently as 12,000 years ago.

Meteorites become source of income

After the meteor that fell in the eastern province of Bingöl's Sarıçiçek village in 2015, the number of people who are looking for meteorites on land has increased, according to Turkish Meteorite Pursuit System Project Executive Assistant Professor Ozan Ünsalan from the Ege University Physics Department.

New Study Supports Darwin's Theory of the Origin of Life

Research supports the theory that fallen meteorites in warm water on the Earth's surface have given the essential elements necessary for the birth of life. This theory rests on "comprehensive research and calculations in the field of astrophysics, geology, chemistry, biology," says a publication in Canadian University McMaster in PNAS.
