Greenhouse gases hit new record highs in 2023: UN
Greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere reached new record highs in 2023, locking in future temperature increases for years to come, the United Nations warned on Monday.
Levels of the three main greenhouse gases, the climate-warming carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, all increased yet again last year, the U.N.'s weather and climate agency said.

US, EU lawmakers seek international methane standard for oil and gas
A group of European Union and US Democrat lawmakers has asked the International Energy Agency to develop international standards for measuring the oil and gas sector's emissions of methane, to help countries adopt tougher measures targeting the potent greenhouse gas, a letter showed on Tuesday.
EU agrees law to hit fossil fuel imports with methane emissions limit
The European Union reached a deal on Wednesday on a law to place methane emissions limits on Europe's oil and gas imports from 2030, pressuring international suppliers to clamp down on leaks of the potent greenhouse gas.
Global food system emissions imperil Paris climate goals
The global food system's greenhouse gas emissions will add nearly 1 degree Celsius to Earth's surface temperatures by 2100 on current trends, obliterating Paris Agreement climate goals, scientists have warned.
Europe plan for floating gas terminals raises climate fears
As winter nears, European nations, desperate to replace the natural gas they once bought from Russia, have embraced a short-term fix: A series of roughly 20 floating terminals that would receive liquefied natural gas from other countries and convert it into heating fuel.
New methane binding process could end insanely wasteful burn-offs
Oil industry flare-off burning of “waste” methane currently burns as much natural gas as all of South and Central America combined

NASA's Curiosity rover finds new methane spike on Mars
NASA's Curiosity Rover has detected the highest ever levels of methane in the course of its mission on Mars, an exciting discovery because the gas could point to the existence of microbial life.
NASA finds organic matter on Mars
The molecules, containing carbon and hydrogen, are locked in rocks that are 3 billion years old. Scientists also discovered that the amount of methane gas in the Martian atmosphere changes with the seasons, although the cause of these fluctuations was not clear.

Scientists have Discovered a Lake Under the Sea (Video)
US scientists have discovered a lake at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, BNT reported. The water in it is about five times saline compared to the surrounding. It also contains poisonous concentrations of methane and hydrogen sulphide and therefore does not mix with the surrounding sea water. If an animal or person enters this pool, toxic chemicals can be deadly.
