FM Çavuşoğlu calls Turkish citizen injured in Barcelona attack

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has held a phone conversation with a Turkish citizen who was injured in the Aug. 17 Barcelona attack, according to sources from the ministry. Sources said the minister called Emre Eroğlu and extended his get well wishes. Separately, the Turkish Consulate in Barcelona shared a picture of Eroğlu in the hospital on Aug.

Russia understands Turkey's stance on the People's Protection Units (YPG) better than the United States, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Aug. 16.

Washington is arming YPG forces fighting Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria, alarming their NATO ally Turkey, who regards them as an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Turkey becomes sectorial dialogue partner of ASEAN

Turkey has become a sectorial dialogue partner for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Aug. 6.

"Turkey has officially become the sectorial dialogue partner of ASEAN," Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said in the Philippine capital Manila, where he attended the organization's 50th Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

Russian ambassador to Turkey presents credentials

Russia's new ambassador to Turkey, Aleksey Yerhov, presented his letter of credentials to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on July 28. 

In May, Yerhov was appointed Russia's new ambassador to Ankara five months after the assassination of former envoy Andrey Karlov.

Yerhov is the former consul general in Istanbul. 

Turkish economy at risk in Germany row: EU official

The Turkish economy could be harmed if growing tensions with the bloc, and especially with Germany, get out of hand, said EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, on the eve of talks in Brussels with senior Turkish officials.

Hahn said the country that is a candidate to join the bloc is "slipping away from European values."
