The leaders of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) have both slammed former Turkish Chief of General Staff İlker Başbuğ over his recent statements saying the ongoing military operation in Afrin should “not be used for domestic political purposes.”

Turkey's opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) expelled four of its lawmakers on March 10, amid deepening rift within the party.   

The MHP's central disciplinary board ruled for the expulsions of Balıkesir lawmaker İsmail Ok, Kayseri lawmaker Yusuf Halaçoğlu, Isparta lawmaker Nuri Okutan and party member Sinan Oğan.

MHP to hold extraordinary congress on May 15

Turkey's Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) will hold an extraordinary party congress on May 15, a three-person panel appointed by an Ankara court has said amid an intensification of inner-party disputes.

The panel, made up of Mehmet Bilgiç, Ayhan Erel and Ali Sa??r, held a meeting that lasted for 10 hours on April 18, after which the date was announced.
