Michael Haneke

Swedish director winner of 70th Cannes Festival

It was not a great festival. Among the 19 features selected for the competition in Cannes, there were quite a number of "mediocre" films, besides some good films. I had three favorites: "Loveless" by Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev, "Happy End" by Austrian Michael Haneke and "The Square" by Swedish director Ruben Östlund.

An endless search for love at Cannes

In our first review we spoke about two films at Cannes this year ("Sea Sorrow" and "Jupiter's Moon") focusing on one of the main themes of this year's festival: The migration crisis. This is only part of the overall crisis in today's Europe, which includes the degeneration of the political and economic system as well as of human values.

Refugee crisis reflected at Cannes Film Festival

One of the main topics at this year's Cannes Film Festival seems to be the migrant issue. We have already seen two pictures on the topic and others will follow, among which one is the highly expected title of the year, Michael Haneke's "Happy End."

World famous actress Vanessa Redgrave arrived in Cannes to present her first film as its director at the age of 80.

Akerman films come to Istanbul Modern

Between March 10 and 20, Istanbul Modern Cinema will present the most comprehensive retrospective ever organized in Turkey of Belgian director Chantal Akerman, a pioneer of experimental and feminist cinema who passed away in October 2015.

The program of 16 films will be organized in collaboration with the Filmmor Women's Film Festival.
