Paramount's new horror film "Smile 2" has surpassed its successful predecessor, taking in an estimated $23 million in North American theaters this weekend, industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported on Oct. 20.

Tim Burton and Monica Bellucci arrived in Venice for the opening of the annual Venice Film Festival.
The festival kicks off with the premiere of Burton’s latest work, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, on Wednesday, August 28, which is a sequel to his 1988 film.
The 66-year-old director and the Italian actress were photographed holding hands as they arrived in the Italian city.
Beetlejuice sequel to open Venice Film Festival
The sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 "Beetlejuice" will premiere at this year's Venice Film Festival, bringing back actor Michael Keaton as the havoc-wrecking demon, organizers said July 2.
"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" will kick off the glitzy festival running from August 28 through Sept. 7 on Venice's Lido, showing out of competition.
