The Democratic Party announced on Monday that it would file an official request to the parliamentary speaker, Maja Gojkovic, to set up a parliamentary inquiry committee to independently investigate the crash which has sparked public controversy.

After an investigation of the crash scene, the defence ministry said on Saturday morning that four crew members, two medical workers and the five-day-old baby died when the army helicopter crashed near Belgrade airport in the Surcin neighbourhood of the capital the previous night.

Serbian military helicopter carrying seven people on board crashed near Belgrade while evacuating a sick baby from southern Serbia.
Serbia's Defence Ministry did not immediately disclose whether anyone survived the crash, which occurred late on Friday near Belgrade's international airport, ABC news reports.

All 14 passengers survived a close brush with death on Monday when their helicopter crashed in the far east of Russia -- a rare happy ending for a country prone to aviation disasters.
The Mi-8 helicopter, which included 11 forest firefighters among its passengers, crashed near the village of Chekunda in the Khabarovsk region, the Federal Forestry Agency said.
