"The Cyprus issue is a constant concern and a top national priority of Greek foreign policy," the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou said on Monday, welcoming the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides to the Presidential Mansion on his first official visit to Athens after assuming his new duties.

Greece will continue joint efforts to solve the Cyprus problem on the basis of UN resolutions, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told the Mediterranean island's newly-elected president Nikos Christodoulides during a meeting in Athens Monday.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will receive with his new Cypriot counterpart, Constantinos Kombos, in Athens on Thursday.

This will be the first visit of the Cypriot Foreign Minister to Greece since taking office. The two ministers will hold talks during a working lunch before making joint statements to the press.

Turkish provocations and the Cyprus problem are expected to be at the heart of the contacts during Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades' visit to Athens on Wednesday. 

According to Nicosia, Turkey's behavior is not consistent with a constructive attitude that could allow for a sincere discussion on a solution to the Cyprus problem.

Türkiye has strongly condemned the expansion of the scope of the decision taken by the U.S. in September 2020 to lift the arms embargo on Greek Cyprus, the Turkish Foreign Ministry has said.

In a statement issued on Sept. 17, the ministry highlighted that the country "fully supports" the reaction of Turkish Cyprus authorities regarding the decision.
