North Korea fired a missile that flew over Japan's northern Hokkaido far out into the Pacific Ocean on Sept. 15, South Korean and Japanese officials said, deepening tensions after Pyongyang's recent test of its most powerful nuclear bomb.

The United Nations Security Council passed a new round of sanctions in retaliation for North Korea's most powerful nuclear test every conducted on September 3. The resolution bans Pyongyang from exporting textiles while capping how much crude oil and refined petroleum products can be imported.

North Korea has said it is considering a missile strike on the US Pacific territory of Guam, just hours after Donald Trump warned the regime that any threat to the United States would be met with “fire and fury”.

The U.S. Army and South Korean military responded to North Korea's latest launch with their own exercise of missiles, launching them Wednesday into South Korean territorial waters along the country's eastern coastline, U.S. Pacific Command said in a statement.

North Korea is ready to launch a nuclear test at its Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site, the 38 North monitoring group reported on Wednesday.

The 38 North analysis group described the test site as “primed and ready.”
