Russia: Rescue Operation in 'Pioneer' Mine Suspended, 13 Miners Still Trapped

Methane Explosion in Serbian Soko Mine Kills Eight Miners

Part of the pit at the Soko coal mine collapsed and caused a methane explosion, leaving eight miners dead and at least 18 injured on Friday.

Sasa Spasic, director of the Public Enterprise for Underground Coal Exploitation Resavica, announced the names of the dead, while the number of injured miners is not yet definite.

Search and rescue teams early on June 1 retrieved the bodies of two workers from a collapsed coal mine in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak after more than 30 hours, state-run Anadolu Agency reported. 

The collapse occurred in a mine run by a private firm in Zonguldak's Kilimli district at 8:30 p.m. on May 30.
