German FM's remarks on Turkey unfortunate, aimed at internal politics 

Remarks by German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel on Turkey amount to an investment for the upcoming elections in the country, Presidential spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said on July 20, calling them "unfortunate."

"We think that those unfortunate statements are an investment for internal politics aimed at the approaching elections in Germany," Kalın said at a press briefing.

Germany warns against "Trumpization" of Middle East

Germany's Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel says a "Trumpization" of interactions in the already crisis-shaken Middle East region was extremely dangerous.

"US President Trump's recent giant military contracts with Gulf monarchies raise the risk of a new spiral in arms sales," Gabriel warned in the interview for Handelsblatt to be published Wednesday, Deutsche Welle reported.

However vote turns out in Turkey, people should keep calm: German FM

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel has commented on the result of Turkey's constitutional referendum, saying that "people should remain calm."  

"It looks like it will be a close result, as expected. However the vote of the Turkish people turns out in the end, we'd be well advised to keep calm and to proceed in a level-headed way," Gabriel said in a statement.

Berlin concerned over possibility of new arms race in Europe

German Minister for Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel, who is in Moscow for talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, says that Germany fears a new arms race in Europe.

"We are concerned that a new spiral of the arms race may emerge in Europe," he said, as cited by TASS. "It's too early to say how and in what direction we could advance to prevent this."

Merkel, Schulz With Equal Support for German Chancellor Post

Social Democrat Martin Schulz would receive the same level of support as German Chancellor Angela Merkel if voters could vote directly for the head of government, showed a survey of ARD TV carried out on Wednesday, cited by Reuters.

Schulz and Merkel have the same level of electoral support - 41%, reported BTA.
