Turkey's foreign minister hopes to make progress on improving Ankara's rocky ties with the European Union on Thursday as he attends a meeting of EU ministers in Brussels for the first time in five years, a source from his ministry said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba is set to request approval from member states to use supplied weapons for deep strikes on military targets within Russia. Speaking ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, Kuleba emphasized the importance of obtaining permission to target what he termed "legitimate military targets" deep inside Russia.

Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis will meet with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Brussels on Thursday, as announced on Wednesday.

The bilateral meeting will take place on the sidelines of an informal EU foreign ministers' gathering, to which Fidan has been invited.

No further details about the meeting have been made available.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will attend a meeting of European Union ministers in Brussels next week that Ankara hopes will pave the way for improved ties with the bloc, the ministry's spokesperson said on Thursday.

Türkiye has welcomed the European Union's invitation to Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to attend an informal meeting next week where regional issues will be discussed, in the first attempt by Brussels to establish political dialogue with Ankara in five years.

Greek-Turkish relations have been in a state of calm for some two years now, with no Aegean overflights and, more importantly, hardly any unauthorized flights into the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR).

Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis discussed relations with Turkey at the 28th Annual Economist Government Roundtable on Tuesday, highlighting the need for a continuous Greek-Turkish dialogue. 

A meeting of representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and foreign embassies was held last Friday at the ministry to exchange ideas on the most common issues faced by foreign visitors.

The discussion focused on ways to address these issues more effectively through collaboration between the relevant Greek authorities and foreign diplomatic and consular missions in Greece.
