Police officers from across Bulgaria gathered in Sofia in a symbolic protest, expressing their concerns about what they describe as unprecedented political pressure on the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The officers emphasized that their gathering was not a protest in the traditional sense, but a demonstration of their commitment to their work.

Notably, Savvas Chionidis, a former MP for Pieria, will join the Ministry of the Interior, and former MP Tasos Gaitanis will join the Ministry of Development.

The Bulgarian traffic police have received a boost with the addition of 50 new vehicles, as announced by Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov. These vehicles are part of an ongoing effort to enhance public safety, following a previous allocation of new cars just a month ago, according to National Police Director Ch. Zhivko Kotsev, the Chief Secretary of Bulgaria's Ministry of Internal Affairs, has clarified the reasons behind his decision to step down from his position. In a statement posted on the department's website, Kotsev cited his belief that he had dedicated sufficient energy and effort to serving society as a driving factor in his departure.

Nasos Balerbas, secretary-general of the Interior Ministry, will replace in the coming days another ministry official who resigned over a data breach scandal in which emails were sent to diaspora voters by a Conservative European Parliamentarian, Kathimerini understands.
