McCain Says US Should Send Javelin Missiles to Ukraine

BELGRADE - US President Donald Trump should send Javelin FGM-148 handheld anti-tank missiles to Kiev to support Ukraine government forces, Senator John McCain told Sputnik.

When asked on Thursday what kind of weapons the United States should send to arm Ukrainian government forces, McCain named Javelin anti-tank missiles and counter-battery armor.

Russian arms deliveries to Serbia "would restore balance"

If Serbia's plans to buy air defense systems and MiG-29s from Russia are successful, these arms "will restore the balance in the Balkans."

According to Moscow-based Kommersant paper, quoted by Sputnik, this balance "could be undermined by Croatia's plans to buy operational-tactical missiles MGM-140 ATACMS from the U.S." - ones that have the range of 300 kilometers.

Turkey to focus on long-range missile defense system development by 'local means'

Turkey will focus on long-range missile defense system developed by indigenous means, hence why the country canceled the existing missile project tender with a recent decision by the Defense Industry Executive Committee, said the National Defense Ministry in a written statement. 

US to send another Aegis-equipped ship to Mediterranean

The U.S. will send an additional anti-missile Aegis-equipped ship to the Mediterranean this fall to defend Turkey and other NATO allies against ballistic missile threats, U.S. Navy spokeswoman Cmdr. Pamela Rawe told Anadolu Agency on Aug. 19. 

"The U.S. is committed to the defense of our NATO allies, which includes Turkey," Rawe said.

US, Germany to pull Patriot missiles from Turkey

The United States announced on Aug. 16 that it had informed the Turkish government that the U.S. deployment of Patriot air and missile defense units in Turkey, which expires in October, will not be renewed. The announcement came one day after Germany also said it would pull its Patriot missile batteries from southern Turkey.
