Sea route Piraeus-Lesvos for…migrant transport becoming permanent
The transport of refugees and migrants from eastern Aegean islands to mainland Greece continues unabated, as an additional 2,171 Syrian nationals are expected to disembark from the passenger ferry ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’, which was scheduled to dock at the port of Piraeus on Friday afternoon.

Yet another mini riot was reported amongst a group of irregular migrants at the port of Mytilene, on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos (Lesbos), as authorities struggle to process the thousands of third country nationals being smuggled onto Greece’s isles from neighboring Turkey.

Earthquake in the NW Peloponnese
A 4.3 on the Richter scale earthquake has hit the western port city of Patras,, northwest Peloponnese, at 7.10 p.m. (17.10 GMT) on Sunday.
Patras is the 3rd largest city of Greece after the capital, Athens, and Thessaloniki. The epicenter was located approximately 48 kilometers south of the city. So far no damages have been reported.

Two arrested, two sought for sex-trafficking of Bulgarian minor
A 28-year-old Bulgarian and a 36-year-old Greek were arrested on sex-trafficking charges over the weekend, while another two suspects, a 43-year-old foreign national and a 32-year-old Greek, were identified and being sought by police in the same case.
Funds released for improvements to Panathinaikos soccer stadium

Search by divers in Pamvotida Lake finds no sign of missing student
A search operation conducted on Saturday by divers in Pamvotida Lake in Ioannina, northwestern Greece, failed to produce any evidence with regard to the disappearance of student Vangelis Giakoumakis (photo).
The 20-year-old, who was enrolled at the city?s Dairy School, was last seen walking into Ioannina city center on February 6.

The excavation team at Amphipolis is waiting for the Ministry of Culture to decide on when to continue works at Kasta Hill, Amphipolis, said lead archaeologist Katerina Peristeri.
Piraeus metro moving ahead but tram is lagging
The Athens metro extension to Piraeus is expected to reach the suburb of Nikaia in May, the company in charge of the project, Attiko Metro, said, adding that 30 percent has been completed and work will resume in mid-January, following a break for the holidays.
