In 1992, an unusual event sparked global interest: a shipping container accidentally fell into the ocean, releasing 28,000 rubber duckies and other children’s bath toys. These small, yellow ducklings embarked on a journey across the world’s oceans, with some washing up on shores as far away as Alaska and Maine.
Four Turkish ports make it to Lloyd’s top 100 list
The Turkish ports of Ambarlı, Kocaeli, Mersin and Tekirdağ ranked in the Lloyd's 100 ports lists, Transport Minister Abdülkadir Uraloğlu has said.
Ambarlı Port climbed in the ranking from the 74th spot to the 64th spot, the minister said in a statement.

Missing train container found
The container of the commercial train that was missing and being sought by investigators of the deadly head-on train collision in late February 2023 in Tempe, central Greece, was found on a private plot of land in Thessaloniki, many kilometers from the crash site, according to reports on Friday.

Police release images of cocaine haul
Police in Athens have released images of last week's seizure of almost 110 kilograms of cocaine that was hidden in a container containing a cargo of frozen squid in Piraeus port on a vessel from South America.
The vessel on which the container was loaded had embarked from Peru, with its shipping documents stating that it was destined for Croatia.

Container traffic has diminished by 30% at Piraeus port
The handling of containers in Piraeus appears to have dropped by approximately 30% compared to last year, due to the ongoing crisis in the Red Sea, which has forced a very large part of the commercial ships to sail around Africa.

Qatar sends World Cup containers to quake-hit Hatay
As part of the efforts to shelter the survivors of the deadly Feb. 6 quakes, containers used by Qatar for the 2022 World Cup have started to be set up in the southern quake-hit province of Hatay, and about 596 families will be placed in 600 of these containers in the first phase of the project.
‘People can donate containers to quake zone’
In the aftermath of the deadly Feb. 6 quakes, the problem of shelters continues to persist, as the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) has announced that citizens or companies who are willing can donate containers to the quake zone, in a bid to provide adequate accommodation to quake survivors.
