The leader of Hamas Yahya Sinwar is dead, according to the Israeli army.

Israel has vowed to eliminate new Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, the alleged mastermind of the Oct. 7 attack, with regional hostilities threatening to boil over as the Gaza war enters its 11th month.

Hamas on Tuesday named Yahya Sinwar, the man Israel says masterminded the Oct. 7 attack that sparked the Gaza war, as its new political chief following last week's killing of his predecessor Ismail Haniyeh.

The announcement came with the Middle East on edge as it awaited Iran's retaliation over the killing of Haniyeh in Tehran.

Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, has assumed the leadership of the Palestinian group. This announcement by Hamas comes a week after their previous leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in Tehran, as reported by Reuters.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have announced that they have eliminated Mohammed Deif, the military leader of Hamas, in an airstrike.

The Israeli military targeted the compound where Deif was hiding, and other terrorists were killed in the attack, according to the announcement.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Egypt on Tuesday as part of his latest Middle East crisis tour, seeking a new ceasefire and "an enduring end" to the Israel-Hamas war.

Israel continues its Gaza offensive in and around Khan Yunis, with recent operations including an Air Force strike on a missile launcher in the city's western part and a Paratrooper Brigade combat team eliminating terrorists in short-range incidents.
