A 62-year-old man was killed on Tuesday after falling down a ravine on Mount Athos in northern Greece.

The man was on a pilgrimage to the monastic community and slipped while hiking along a trail connection the monasteries of Simon Petras and Aghios Grigorios, together with three friends.

Egypt has reopened an ancient library which holds thousands of centuries-old religious and historical manuscripts at the famed St. Catherine Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in South Sinai.

Many people have decided to spend the night in tents close to the monastery and attend the morning liturgy to pray for health.

Two monasteries are refusing to pay the single property tax (ENFIA) and are calling for monasteries belonging to the Church of Greece to be exempt from the tax.
