Istanbul police nab Interpol-wanted drug smuggler
Turkish police has apprehended Isaac Bignan, known as the "Black Mamba," who is the right-hand man of Dutch drug baron Joseph Johannes Leijdekkers and wanted by Interpol with a red notice, as he was attempting to flee from the northwestern province of Muğla.

Hotel occupancy rate at nearly 100 pct in some resort towns
Occupancy rates at resort towns on the Aegean coast have climbed to nearly 100 percent thanks to the long Eid al-Adha holiday, according to hoteliers in the region.
For instance, some 100,000 cars entered the popular destination of Bodrum in the province of Muğla within a space of four and a half days.
Charred forest cover of Marmaris rejuvenating itself
Around 4,392 hectares of forest cover that was reduced to ashes following massive wildfires in the southwestern province of Muğla's Marmaris district last year is now turning green again with the help of an experimental method in which burned trees were not cut down but left to the natural cycle of the ecosystem.

The second Marmaris International Culture and Art Festival, which kicked off on June 2 with a concert by the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Orchestra under the direction of Conductor Eray İnal, will continue through June 26 in the popular western town.

Traces of ancient life come to surface in Mobolla
Excavations have been conducted for the first time in the ancient city of Mobolla, one of the most important settlements of antiquity. Located in the Menteşe district of the western province of Muğla, from the fifth century, the ancient city bears the traces of the traditional Anatolian settlement model from 4,500 years ago.

Magnitude 5.4 quake rattles Turkish coast
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 struck off the Turkish coast in the Aegean on Jan. 25, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake was felt in the provinces of Muğla, İzmir and Antalya, with Turkey's AFAD emergency management agency saying it had a preliminary magnitude of 5.4.

Endangered caracal monitored in Aegean province
An endangered caracal and its offspring have been spotted with a camera trap placed in the forest in the Aegean province of Muğla.
The camera trap set by Yasin İlemin from Muğla Sıtkı Kocaman University captured images of a caracal and two puppies, whose species are under threat of extinction.

Forest fire in Muğla brought under control in 7 hours
The forest fire that broke out on Sept. 14 in the Aegean province of Muğla's Ula district took seven hours to extinguish, thanks to the efforts of firefighting personnel battling fires from both land and air, the provincial governor's office has announced.
