President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was the chair of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) from the day it was founded on Aug. 14, 2001, until he resigned on Aug. 27, 2014, because he was elected the president, registering a total of 13 years and 13 days. He is back as the chair of AK Party after 998 days.

Three days ago, Süleyman Demirel, a guru of Turkish politics, died at the age of 90. From 1965, when he was first elected as prime minister, to 2000, when he retired as president, he was the towering figure of what was once ?the center right.? With his death, those of us who still remember the 20th century better realized that it is now a fully bygone age.

Davuto?lu vows to 'erase all trace' of Turkey's coups
Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu has pledged to wipe out all marks of military coups in Turkey.
Davuto?lu?s remarks on May 13 came a day after the funeral of Kenan Evren, the mastermind of the military coup in 1980, who passed away on May 10 at the age of 97 at a hospital in the Turkish capital Ankara.
