Greece had 27 deaths, 180 cases of West Nile Virus up to Sept 18
A total of 27 deaths and 180 cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) infection have been diagnosed and investigated in Greece up until September 18, according to an epidemiological report released on Thursday by Greece's National Public Health Organization (EODY).

With 100 instances of West Nile virus infections confirmed in nine regions of the country and two additional deaths within a week, the virus transmitted by common mosquitoes poses a significant threat, with experts appealing to the public to take necessary precautions.

EODY reports two more deaths from West Nile virus, first case in Attica
According to the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY), 21 new cases of West Nile virus were reported, along with two deaths, during the week of August 7-14.
This brings the total number of cases diagnosed in Greece in 2024 to 76. Additionally, the total number of recorded deaths has risen to 10.
First Measles Case Reported in Bulgaria!
The National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in Bulgaria has confirmed the country's first case of measles, sparking concerns about potential outbreaks. The case, originating in Sofia, was identified at the end of last week by the national reference laboratory for measles, mumps, and rubella.

54 whooping cough cases reported, with 2 fatalities
An increase in whooping cough cases has been recorded in recent months in several European countries, including Greece, where two deaths have already been recorded this year.
According to data from the National Public Health Organization (EODY), 54 cases have been recorded in Greece this year, including among 32 children and adolescents, 11 of whom are infants under the age of one.
EODY team to visit University of Patra following third meningitis case
A team from the National Organization for Public Health (EODY) is scheduled to visit the University of Patra in western Greece on Thursday following the report of a third serious case of meningitis involving a student this year, which was reported on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old patient is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of Patra University Hospital.
