Authentic Picasso painting found by junk dealer in Capri cellar

A painting discovered decades ago by a junk dealer while cleaning a cellar in Capri appears to be an authentic work by Pablo Picasso. Despite being a Picasso, the painting was not appreciated by the dealer’s wife, who called it “horrible,” nor by his family, who considered getting rid of it.

"Bildnis Fraeulein Lieser" (Portrait of Miss Lieser) was commissioned by a wealthy Jewish industrialist's family and painted by Klimt in 1917 shortly before he died.

Picasso's youngest son dies aged 76

Claude Ruiz Picasso, the younger son of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, has died in Switzerland aged 76, his lawyer told AFP on Aug. 24.

He did not give the cause of death.

Ruiz Picasso managed the Picasso estate from 1989 to July 2023, when he handed over responsibility to his sister, Paloma.

Picasso had four children.

Francoise Gilot, the woman who dumped Picasso

France's Francoise Gilot, who died on June 6 aged 101, survived what she called the "hell" of being Spanish artist Pablo Picasso's mistress and muse to become a renowned artist in her own right.

The Picasso Museum in Paris confirmed her death to AFP, after the New York Times reported Gilot had passed away following recent heart and lung ailments.
