Ancient Eleutherna Museum inaugurates ‘Picasso on Crete: Joy of Life’ exhibition
The Museum of Ancient Eleutherna near Rethymno, Crete celebrated its 8th anniversary with the inauguration of an exhibition on Pablo Picasso that included Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the former queen of Spain Sophia and her sister Irene, and daughter of Picasso, Paloma, among guests.
Cretan Cities: The Testimony of the Coins | Crete | To December 15
The Museum of Ancient Eleutherna's temporary exhibition "Cretan Cities: The Testimony of the Coins" showcases Cretan history through a collection of ancient coins. The exhibit, organized by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Rethymno, the University of Crete and the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, includes 124 ancient coins and a detailed catalogue in Greek and English.

The museum at the archaeological site of Eleutherna (Eleftherna), the first of its kind on Crete and the fourth in the country, has every reason to pop the corks on its third anniversary this summer, as visitor numbers keep rising.

Two Greek institutions up for European Museum of the Year Award
The Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology in Athens and the Museum of Ancient Eleutherna on the island of Crete have been nominated for the prestigious European Museum of the Year Award for 2019.
